The Peekaboo first appeared in the 2009 show. The name referred to the traditional children’s game, ‘Peekaboo, I see you’. Initially, the bag was called the ‘Hide and Seek’ but Venturini Fendi felt that Peekaboo was a better fit for the way the interior compartments of the bag are revealed.
Created as the antithesis to shouty ‘It’ bags, the Peekaboo was decidedly more discreet and practically logo-less, with a comparatively minimal design. It defined ‘quiet luxury’ well before the term trended.
“There was an invasion of bags on the catwalk everywhere at the time, so I really wanted to create a bag that only a real leather goods maker like Fendi could possibly make,” says Venturini Fendi. “It was the moment to set things straight with a new classic.”
The bag’s top handle and trapezium-shaped form pay homage to mid-century styles but with a modern twist – quite literally. Thanks to its clever construction and weighted keyhole hardware, a simple swivel of the turnlock clasp creates a drape (or ‘smile’) that reveals a beautifully crafted interior – in this case the Zucca Fendi jacquard lining.
This bag is crafted from leopard printed calf hair, gold and matt silver hardware and black patent leather. Inside the lining is the Zucca Fendi logo canvas.
This bag is in good preowned condition. There are some balding areas to the calf hair.
Comes with the original Fendi dust bag, cards and shoulder strap.
